Mashable's blog entry today titled "How Social Media has Changed Us" inspired a few thoughts. While a little more light-hearted than many of the reasons in Mashable's blog entry, here are a few ways that we see social media has changed us here at OpenSpark:
- We communicate much more frequently with family and friends. Sites such as Facebook allow for staying connected and keeping in touch in ways that have not been possible before.
- We have reconnected with friends from high school and college as well as people we have worked with over the years.
- Social media breaks down many communication barriers and as a result we’ve expanded both our social and professional networks. Today we interact directly with people who would have been out of reach just a few years ago.
- We find ourselves reading and learning significantly more simply as a result of the amount a content that is available. From quick updates on Twitter to thorough blog entries, all have indirectly contributed to our reading ability and increased the rate at which we read.
- Finally, while this logically may not make sense, social media has allowed us to communicate with more people in less amount of time. Social media makes it very easy to share ideas and get feedback at a much more rapid pace.
